I decided to change things a bit. Weight: just under 192 (194 with shoes, shorts)
rotator cuff
pull ups: 4 sets of 10, 1 x 7, 1 x 5 (went very well)
lots of free squats to practice form.
bench: 10 x 135, 5 x 170, 5 x 170, 4 x 170 (didn’t risk a 5’th). kept the form; tried to “push myself into the bench”
decline: 5 x 175
Super set of low bar squats and overhead presses (clean from the low pin position)
presses: 3 sets of 5: 85, 90, 90 (strict, full reps)
squats 1 x 95 (felt awful), 5 x 65, 5 x 75, 5 x 85. Yes, I clean and press more than I squat. I have issues. But I did get full depth. Tried to push up and down
rows (hammer) 3 sets of 10 x 200
dumbbell presses: 2 sets of 10 x 45
Legs were trash by now…
hex bar dead lift: 205 was too much for what I wanted to do today; quad focus: 3 sets of 5 x 175
2:30 plank
headstand.
This took about 85 minutes. That’s enough for today.
Nostalgia: I miss the old iron plates clanking ..the old rusty bars and the stinky gyms filled with gross, sweaty guys.
But I can still make my muscles ache.
Bradley had gotten blown out at ranked Missouri State in the first game 90-56 and hoped to gain a split at home.
Well…the fist half seemed like it was going to be a replay of the first game. The Mo. State Bigs dominated inside (the Bears owned a 19-8 edge in offensive rebounds for the whole game) and it was 40-25 at the half.
Second half saw the lead balloon to 47-27 and I thought “ok, here we go again.”
But Bradley decided to run up and down the court, and that seemed to tire out the big Mo. State post players. BU eventually chipped into the lead and it was 54-46 going into the 4’th. Mo State would open up a 10 point lead and BU would fight back…eventually it was 67-64 late in the game. But with time running down and BU with the ball; BU didn’t set up a 3 point shot (tried) and instead drove it to the basket and drew contact with 3.4 seconds left. The BU coach later said that they didn’t risk an intentional miss on a free throw due to the large front line.
BU hit both to cut the lead to 67-66 and fouled quickly. Mo. St. calmly sunk both free throws and a desperation long shot missed, ending the game.
This was the first home loss of the season for the Women’s team and this was the only conference team that BU didn’t at least gain a split with.
Going forward: BU has two very winnable road games (at Indiana State and Evansville) and is guaranteed 3’rd seed; current MVC record is 11-5 and overall 20-7. But these games are far from meaningless as they remain in the hunt for post season play.
