Divas and Drama Queens

The title is intentionally vague.

I’ll limit myself to what I can say.

Monday: 2 mile commuter walk before a Dean’s meeting. Morning: pull ups were a bit of a drag: 5 sets of 6, then 6, 5, 5, 5. I think I didn’t rest enough between sets. I did one pair of mixed grips, one set was chin up style.
Bench: 10 x 134, 3 sets of 5 x 160, 2 x 170
high incline: 10 x 94, then 2 sets of 6 x 105. Kind of tired.

This morning: 10k course in 1:25:55, slightly slower than 3 weeks ago, but one of my faster ones. I was especially pleased since the road was slick with rain. And I wore shorts! It hit in the 80’s today; big storm due tonight.

Time flies, but I don’t

Writing: not much, but I’ve been watching lots of shows with B and that is more important. And I did watch the Bradley women beat Evansville on Thursday (not a close game at the end, though it was close for a half) and lose 66-65 on a free throw with 0.7 seconds to go. The Rebirds scored the first 10 points of the game, then the Braves scored the next 13. It went back and forth with the Redbirds building an 8 point lead in the second half, only to have Bradley take a 7 point lead with 2 minutes left in the game.

But Navy really had a brutal end to their game.

More importantly, B went to the Bradley game with me, and WALKED from the house to the game (with one rest stop) with her rollator.

Workout notes:

Thursday: it was slick with rain, but it was 1:26:24 (13:56 mpm) for the course. I was 57:30 exiting the park so the last 2.2 in 29 minutes was nice.

Friday: weights and a 2 mile commuter walk.
The pull ups: mostly sets of 5 and 6 with one of 8 to get me my 50 reps. These were not bad, not great.
bench: 10 x 134, 3 sets of 5 x 160, 1 x 170
high incline: 10 x 94, 4 x 110, 7 x 105 (less than stellar)

Saturday: same course as last Saturday, but 7 minutes slower due to howling winds. 3:00:06 for 11.2 miles; the wind just howled.

Sunday: 5k commuter walk after some deadlifts:
low: 10 x 134, 10 x 184, 10 x 225
4 inch: 2 x 300, 4 x 300, 10 x 255 (easy). I lose a rep or two going from 6 inch to 4 inch.

Tuesday and Wednesday

Yestreday’s walk was in drizzle and it took 1:35 to do my 10k course (15:30 mpm). It was not a great walk, but my mind wandered all over the place. It was mostly about work.

Today: commuter walk (2 miles) and the weights went down like this:
10 singles, 2 sets of 6 (one chin up style), 8, 4 sets of 5.

bench: 10 x 134, 19 x 134 (wanted 20), 7 x 150
high incline: 3 sets of 10 x 94
trap bar dead: 6 inch: 10 x 170, low: 10 x 170, 10 x 190, 10 x 225

Friday, Saturday, Sunday

We just got back from watching Bradley beat Murray state 87-78. It was close for most of the game; it was only 1 point at the half and with 4:xx left it was 70-67.

Workout notes:

Friday: pull ups: included 6, 6, 10, 6 sets of 5. Some were done a bit stricter; the 10 was loose.
bench press: 10 x 134, 2 x 170 (missed 3rd rep), 1 x 175, 5 x 160, 5 x 160, 6 x 155
high incline: 10 x 94, 4 x 110, 7 x 105
2 mile commuter walk (stupid meeting)

Saturday: 11.2 miles at 15:31; walked down to the River plus enough campus stuff to make 11

Sunday: 2 mile commuter. Deadlifts:
6 inch: 10 x 170
low: 10 x 170, 10 x 190, 10 x 225
6 inch: 3 sets of 5 x 300 Maybe it is time to try this with 4 inch.

Whew

Explosive meeting. High emotions.

workout: did my around campus 10k course: well, 6.57 by Strava and 6.27 by Garmin (the last mile was much faster than 15:30); call is 6.4 for 14:20 minutes a mile. It had snowed though much of the path was clear.

Were I training seriously I would have gone inside on the track. But my emotions are better when I am outside so I made that decision.

I have more to say at a later time.

Keeping on keeping on

Trying to remind myself to focus on what is important and to not worry about what I cannot control.

Weights: low 10 x 134, 10 x 184, 10 x 225
6 inch: 3 sets of 5 x 300. It seemed to go ok, with the final set being the easiest one.
Walk: 5K on campus.

Last night, I went to a basketball game with B and Bradley won 74-60. ISU pulled to within 60-57 with about 6 minutes to go but BU pulled away.

Yes, the Redbirds were without their best player (big man) but BU outworked ISU for most of the game and deserved the victory.
