Self talk: reality check

Today: PT, deadlifts (10 x 134, 10 x 190, 10 x 225 low, 10 x 260 4 inch), standard 4 mile walk. Some soreness..nothing major.

The effort was there.

Now, about the results:

I have a tendency to fantasize too much; if I walk 1 mile, I start thinking “hey, marathon is just around the corner.”

And today, my final walking mile was 13:28, which, while not fast, felt deliberate and brisk.

Then I remembered: (out of 49 finishers)

11:13:38 for 50 miles. 13:28.4 minutes per mile…for 50 miles (yes, I walked the whole way)

So, no, 100 milers are not coming back; frankly, marathons are unlikely to come back; maybe, maybe, IF I am patient and the back holds up, a sub 3 hour half marathon?

So…my self talk is to keep myself living in reality.

I tend to get into “Walter Mitty” mode, way too often.

Not boring

Chiefs baseball has not been boring this season. Witness the 11-8 win last night, that was more competitive than the score might indicate.

The Chiefs had a looong 6 run inning to take a 7-2 lead; and it was 8-4 going into the 7’th. The first 2 runs for Beloit were on back to back home runs. That soon became 8-7 as, once again, the relief pitching struggled. Then it was 8-8 in the top of the 8’th; then the Chiefs went to work:

So….there was the top of the 9’th to get through.

9’th. Very deep fly out. 1 away. Next batter: hit by pitch…after a foul ball fly was dropped. Then a double. Runners on 2’nd and third. Fly out to shallow left; 2 out. Then ANOTHER “hit by pitch” and now the bases are loaded, 2 outs.

Second reliever gets the strike out when the umpire called the inside corner..which he had not all game long.

Phew.

There was this home run…I saw it hit the mesh area, but evidently, it hit the foul pole first.
