Mistakes and overcoming them

Today’s workout went reasonably well. It started with PT (as usual), went to deadlifts then to a 4.1 mile walk in 58:01 (14:09 pace); usual 4 mile course (42:47 at 3, 56:38 at 4). I walked past a sand wrestling tournament. I admit that I missed doing stuff like that, but even when I was young I would have gotten creamed. Now: pinned in under 20 seconds.

The deadlifts:

straight bar (1.25 deficit) 10 x 107, 10 x 133, 1 x 195 (lost balance), 10 x 195

straight bar (Olympic) 10 x 226 (easy!) For some reason, at the low handle position, I am stronger with the straight bar than the trap bar. I could be that I have weak quads and stronger hamstrings.

Wagon wheel (4.25 inch advantage) 10 x 260

6 inch trap bar 10 x 285

Importantly: I felt GOOD after these. Legs quivered but no back pain in the slightest.

More variety

Today: easy weights, easy walk. The weights were different:

pull ups (super set with PT, as usual), 4 x 5 (chins, pull ups), 2 x 5 mixed grip, 7 pull ups, 5 pull ups, 5 chin ups, 5 chin ups, then 4 reps, mixing 2 “pause” pull ups (up, top, down) and 2 regular pull ups.

downstairs: 10 x 134 bench. Low incline: 10 x 115, 8 x 120, 8 x 120, 4 x 134

curls: 3 sets of 10, and 3 sets of 10 supported dumbbell presses (I think: 22 lbs?) trying to learn the exercise and not torch my back. Then 4 miles of 15:30 walking.
