Learning the software

Teaching this fall will be a challenge; we don’t know how long we will be in class; we are sure to be online after Thanksgiving but I’ll be shocked if we make it that long. COVID hospitalizations are surging in some states. Right now, it doesn’t look THAT bad in central Illinois. My zip code has seen only 6 cases but those around me have seen more. In Peoria county: 429 cases, 26 deaths.
Of course, the death rate is much higher for older people; I am 10 times more likely to die from it as my daughter is. And a 75 year old is twice as likely to die from it as I am.
But it is a potentially nasty condition and can cause permanent damage (so it appears) to survivors.

How will this affect classes? Our students: not as affected. But it might cause some serious harm to staff and professors.

It feels weird that I need more protection than my students.

Speaking of age…my workout: I decided to walk 2 miles first (15:18 pace) and then I lifted:
pull ups: 4 sets of 10 (even wide grip!) 4 sets of 5 (last 2: chin ups) with rotator cuff stuff.
bench: 10 x 132, 5 x 176, 1 x 187 (felt heavy), 5 x 171, 5 x 171
seated shoulder: 3 sets of 10 x 44
rows (barbell: regular bar with 44) sets of 10 x 113
dead lift (trap bar) 10 x 184, 10 x 206
plank:2:30

All of this, plus my stretching, took about 2 hours. I am filing that away for the fall semester.

When it is all your stuff, you can superset all you like. If only I were strong enough to warrant buying more weight plates! I’ll treat myself to 55 lb bumper plates if I ever get to 300 lb. on the deadlift (unlikely?)

I did feel some hip tingle (not bad) during the walk.

Back to playing with educational software.

Gag..but…

Well, I used my Garmin for the first time. It did seem to short me during that second “W. Peoria” mile (lots of turns) but seemed ok the rest of the way.

It was 72 F, 90 percent humidity (literally) so I just kept is slow and steady.
1:04 was my time for 5 miles; did the 3 mile W. Peoria course, added the 1.5 mile Bradley to University to Moss to Cooper loop and then an extra .5.

I called it a day; hip was not hurting, knee didn’t hurt, so why not cut it there.
Then platelets.

Tomorrow: wake up earlier. Try to get it going (weights)

Issues:

Racism: to me, THIS is a textbook case of racism in the employment sector. They are saying that someone can’t do their job, based on their race. THAT is racism..any way you slice it.

I understand this frustration…

So, look who says “ok”

Yes, Eddie boxed at an elite level and even had a title fight with Vladimir Klitschko …in his prime, and came within 15 seconds of going the distance with him.

But another boxer reached out to this officer and it turned out ok.
